Raue at the History Filmmakers Summit 2023

Raue will participate in the PROGRESS History Filmmakers Summit, which will take place from 26 to 28 October in Halle/Saale, Germany. Prof. Dr. Jan Hegemann will be part of the panel “Destructive Silence: censorship within and without” on the second day of the conference.

After a short keynote by Sergei Loznitsa (author, director and producer), Fabrice Puchault (Head of Commissioning for documentaries & magazines, Arte France), Dr. Fatou Bensouda (Gambian High Commissioner to the UK, Prosecutor), Prof. Dr. Jan Hegemann (Partner Media and Press Law at Raue) and Sergei Loznitsa will discuss the unsaid in film and media – censorship, silence and other reasons why people do not dare to speak the truth aloud. About the limits of compromise and the loss of integrity.

History is thus a process of narrative creation – of telling stories – and historical narratives arise in complex and dynamic social contexts. A wide range of people, media, and institutions are involved in this process of narrative creation. The History Filmmakers Summit is an international platform to question traditional cinematic storytelling, to open new perspectives and to initiate innovative projects. Over three days, key-notes, panel discussions, lunch roundtables, one-to-one meetings and evening receptions facilitate connections for filmmakers.
