Workshop European Infrastructure Projects: Investment Terms in Poland and Slovakia

In the next years, the EU financing of enlargement will be focusing on Poland’s infrastructure. In particularly the enhancement of the transport infrastructure and the renewal of numerous power plants, but also for the modernisation of many facilities in the health sector and other infrastructure sectors, EU funds will be used to a considerable extent in the coming years to initiate large-volume infrastructure projects in Poland. The Polish government also aims to make public-private partnerships more attractive.

Slovakia is one of leading economic developments in the Eurozone. A major part of this is due to infrastructure projects in the public-sector, which are ensuring an enormous upswing. A further acceleration in the use of EU funds is expected in the next years: In particular, the enhancement of the motorway and rail network, but also of the Slovak power plant fleet offer best investment opportunities for companies operating on an international level.

The Participation in interesting infrastructure projects of the public-sector is decided in Europe-wide tender procedures. Despite European harmonisation, the barriers in the participation are sometimes enormous. Our experience shows how important interlinked international consulting is for the success of such projects. On one hand, country-specific regulations of the award procedures must be taken into account; on the other hand, the parties involved naturally act in their own legal sphere in many respects – formation of consortiums, financing, etc. This is often a challenge for legal coordination in such procedures.

With our workshop we would like to familiarize you with the finesse of public procurement procedures for infrastructure projects in Poland and Slovakia and give you insights on our experience in cross-border consulting. We have invited experienced attorneys from Poland and Slovakia, with whom we work together and who will give insights on the particularities on site.
