Raue LLP Advises Heirs of Rudolf Mosse on Auction at Villa Grisebach

Raue LLP has advised the heirs of Rudolf Mosse on restitution of various works of unlawfully confiscated art. This includes works recently brought to auction at the Villa Grisebach: “Emilie in a Red Blouse” (1805) by Adolph von Menzel and Ludwig von Hofmann’s “Spring Storm” as well as the “Portrait of Appellationsrat Stenglein” by Wilhelm Leibl.

The portrait of Menzel’s sister was sold for 1.05 million euros, including buyer’s premium, almost threefold the presale estimate, to a Swiss collector. The work of Wilhelm Leibl achieved 120,000 euros without buyer’s premium. The “Spring Storm” was sold in advance of the auction to a private collector who will provide it to the museum on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt as a permanent loan.
